Beautiful old building with great location especially the number of lovely cafes on the street, and close to shops and restaurants. Staff were lovely and helpful. They recommended a cafe for breakfast and it was the best. Our room ( even though it was not one of the bigger ones) was very big with lots of space for suitcases. Everything was very clean and felt new. Good size bathroom. What I loved the most was the linen…have never stayed in a hotel with such great quality sheets. As for the duvet cover, it was sooo soft and thick, it felt like velvet. I also loved the fact that it was a proper duvet cover that encased the duvet. I hate hotels that wrap the duvet with 2 sheets and it always unravels in the night and I find that unhygienic. I wanted to purchase the same sheets for home….they were absolutely the best quality linen that I have ever encountered and we have stayed in many luxury hotels.

Only there one night, but is a definite favourite for our next visit. The Staff were brilliant, very friendly and professional. The room has to be one of the best we have stayed in. The bed was very comfortable, if anything the quilt was a but small for the bed. The bathroom is perfect, a bath big enough for two, big shower, plenty of soaps, shampoos etc, even a bath bomb! We had cocktails and beer up at the rooftop bar, lovely place to sit and enjoy the view. Also outside seating, Nice to sit and people watch. Very highly recommend staying, my only regret is we couldn’t stay longer, but will definitely be staying again

Wonderful location for my 60th celebration last night. Roof top for champagne and canapés, all pre arranged but a bit unorganised and had to chase up everything several times unfortunately. Long table dinner on the verandah on level 1 was lovely. I set a nautical theme centre piece prior to dinner. Ruby was incredible in the restaurant and worked very hard. The food was fantastic and everyone commented they were happy with their food choices. Our room No 2 was really lovely. Other guests who stayed for the convenience, weren’t thrilled. Rooms small.

Room fabulous but disappointed rooftop and restaurant/verandah overcrowded with intoxicated people having drinks. It was difficult obtaining a table to have dinner where we could hear a conversation. Would have liked a recommendation when we checked in that we needed to book a table for dinner as we had no problem previously eating there on a different night of the week two weeks prior. The waitress tried to be very accomodating which was very much appreciated. She was doing a great job under the circumstances.

The National Hotel has such beautiful new rooms respecting the heritage of this historic hotel. Very comfy and private with all the features you would expect at a top-class hotel. For the price we paid this surprised us. It was so close to everything we wanted to see that we just walked. We should have taken our hire car back earlier as we didn't need it. We enjoyed the live music and had the restaurant food down in the pub on the Monday night. Room service was well done too.
